Service Light (1998 S70 T5 AT) S70 1998

Hi Folks,

My service engine light is always on when I first start the car, but it always goes away within one mile of driving.

When I bought the car from my Volvo mechanic, the ABS module was failing and he replaced it. When I push the TRACS button, the TRACS OFF light displays only for as long as I hold the button down, and it does not stay lit after I let go. My question is, is it possible that my mechanic rigged the communication to the dash to simply not display idiot lights to get me off his back?

Thanks!!

I agree with the other two posters that your TRACS switch is broken. In regards to the service light, this is the way it functions. It goes off within 2 minutes or 1 mile (I believe). Anyway, you can ignore it or if you feel you need to reset it, DRAPER reset tool (I found one on eBay for about $65 shipping included) will do it. Good luck!

You need an $150 electronic "tool" to reset the service light, or go to a dealer.
I agree with rule308, it sounds like a failed switch. It is probably not staying depressed when it should.

For your service light look in the FAQs there is probably something there. On your TRACS light it could just as easily be a case of the switch is not working properly. If you have any questions about the repair maybe you should ask your mechanic.
