Headlamp Replacement V70-XC70

My right (passenger side) lamp was replaced a while back and now my left side lamp looks pretty old compared to the new right one.

I bought a Hella glass lens replacement and thought I would do the swap myself.

I'm wondering if I need to just remove the clips from the top and swap the lens or is it necessary to remove the entire headlamp assembly? If removing the lamp assembly, what is envolved to do this and do I need any special tools?

Thanks,

RGW

Headlamp Replacement V70-XC70 2003

I replaced my lamps 2003 v70, connector broke without much pull, I will do the right side Sat. Has this been an issue with newer Volvo's? the part seems smaller than the ole245, but I understand smaller is the goal..thanks..

Interesting about the headlamp bracket busting. I changed out my 1998 front turn lamps and the plastic slide bracket broke on the older ones. I had to be careful when bending the plastic tabs....

It is reasonably easy to remove the headlight assembly from the car.

1. Remove the side marker lights. These are a bit of a pain because you have to use a screwdriver to push a plastic tab, but then they slide out. Disconnect the connector.
2. Disconnect the power connectors for the main hedlight bulbs. Be gentle.
3. Unscrew 3 bolts for each headlight assembly. You may need an extension on your socket for the lower one, and it's hard to see.
4. Carefully lamp unit lift out and don't drop it.
5. Wash everything, I bet there is lots of dirt, dust, and slime.
6. Check the connectors and use emory cloth of a fingernail file if there is any pitting or corrosion. Cleaning connectors is always a good idea.
