Code Reader help 850

Reference this URL = http://da.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=code+reader&Submit=Go

I have the smaller one (at the top) and it doesn't seem to register any codes even when the check engine light is right there in my face indicating something is wrong.

All 3 on that page say they support 1996+ but I'm wondering if that means cars built AFTER 1996.

Does anyone know if the 2 others on that page might perform better?

Thanks

Don't buy this no-name cheap crap. If you want a decent reader go to eBay and look up Equus Innova 3100. That's all you'll ever need. I have one and it does a great job. The 3030 is also a decent one and pretty cheap. The 3030 will also read later model Volvo's and other cars with the CAN Bus, but you really don't need that on your car.

Hopefully others will give their opinions too.

I also have an Equus Innova 3100 and it has worked well for two years now.

I previously bought a cheap POS from Harbor Freight and, surprise, it did not work.

The small one was a loaner from a buddy and I think I figured out why it didn't work.

Its referred to as "the Troubleshooter" and its manual mentions that its a Universal Code Reader that fits ODBII connections. It never says its an ODBII Reader.

For a quick fix I went to Harbor Frieght and got the red one and tried it in the parking lot before buying it. it worked so its a good band-aid for now. I'll start looking for one of the better ones you guys mentioned for a longer term solution.

Thanks guys
