Temporary fix for that evil ECC (aka frozen feet problem) 850

Hi you all.

There was a thread a few days ago about the Electronic Climate Control having a mind by itself. When in auto, there is no warm air at your feet no matter the setting you choose. I figured something out to get around this without having to get the thing rebuilt or replaced (at least it worked for me, send your feedback)

The problem

When the ECC is set to auto and the car is cold, the computer will direct the air to the windshield only. Gradually, when the car interior gets warmer, it is supposed to gradually go from defrost to bi-level. The problem is that the servo-motor controlling the air from defrost to feet doesnt seem to reach its final position. When it happens, no matter which setting you choose, you will not get warm air to your feet. When it happens, you can:

Here is the procedure

1- Select 'feet' with the central knob
2- turn the fan off (to the '0' position)
3- select defrost with the central knob
4- wait 10 seconds for the servo to reach its full position
5- select 'feet' with the central knob
6- wait 10 seconds
7- restart the fan to the setting you want

this way, i succeeded to get warm air to my feet. I noticed too that if you run the blower to its very minimum speed the servo seems to succeed to direct the air to the feet. So maybe its related to the blower current draw. Or a bad ground.

Say me if it works for you. Thank you.

JP

Temporary fix for that evil ECC (aka frozen feet problem) 850

A little update for the ECC problem. I was driving down the highway this morning and I noticed that I wasn't able to get my feet warm. This is because when the car moves, air is circulating in the ducts even if the blower is turned off. So you have to turn on the recirculate button.

    1-Center button to 'feet'
    2-Turn on 'REC'
    3-Turn off the blower
4-wait for the recirculate flap to close completely
    5-Center button to 'defrost'
    6- wait 10 sec
    7-Center button to 'feet'
    8- wait 10 sec
    9- turn off 'REC'
    10- turn on the blower
