New transmission installed - now long crank time S80

Just had a new tranny installed in the S80 T6 and it takes a long time to crank. Sometimes the tach is jumping as I try to start. Takes about 10 sec to start or more.

Any suggestions on what this may be? Dealer says it's not related to trans ...

If the tack is jumping, it is the rpm sensor. Probably not connected tightly after the tranny swap.

If it is the RPM sensor shouldn't I see some performance hit once I'm driving? All seems OK once it's started.

Also, is this a big job? I called the dealer and they said they will take a look but already are saying it's probably the plugs or maybe the wiring harness.

The dealer service reps are not mechanics. Neither am I. You could replace the plugs yourself, not very hard, or at least inspect them for wear. Throwing parts at it is not the way to go.

Well turned out to be the engine speed sensort as you wrote. Dealer said the wiring harness is deteriorating and they had to replace the wire to the sensor and charged me $125.

Not happy as they should have noticed and troubleshooted the long cranking after they replaced the transmission. How can they release a car in such a way after a major repair?
