99 V70 Driving Light Switch Problem V70-XC70

Suddenly, with no warning, in the middle of a very dark night, I lost my panel lights. If I rotate the switch to the parking light position, the panel lights are there, when I rotate to vertical and run the headlights, no panel lights. The dimmer switch has no effect on this.

BUT.....when I push on the driving light switch, when the headlights are on, the panel lights come on but only if I maintain pressure on the switch.

Unless I am missing something really obvious, it looks like a bad switch. I wonder if someone can tell me the bad news because I know anything with wires coming out of it can't be cheap.

Thanks,

Steve

Ed, Klaus, thanks for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it. BTW, what are you guys recommending for rear shocks and struts on my V70. I might be getting close.

    Regards,

    Steve

If you talk nicely to the service rep, they will install it for no extra charge.

Steve, You are right the switch is bad, I had one go out about 1 yr. ago. The good news is that it snaps out and is easy to replace. Replacment switch cost at Volov is approx. $25.00 and ten minutes for you to put in. It may even be covered by a recall.
