How can I get more power on my S70?? S70

1998 S70 NON-Turbo automatic. Is there a way to add a little more power. It seems so "heavy" It drives fine, I just like a little more power like my Maxima had.

Your car weighs 3,200 lbs and has 168bhp. Probably a little less unless it is tuned up. Make sure the tire pressures are correct +4lbs. Other than that, it never was a pocket rocket.

Unfortunately, there is probably not much you can do without spending a lot of money on modifications, like adding a turbo or a supercharger. And at 240,000 miles, you have had fabulous service from this engine! It is probably simply tired. If you have not done much engine maintenance recently, I suggest you try all the basics like a thorough fluid change, replacing all the tune-up items like spark plugs, and maybe install new rubber hoses and vacuum lines everywhere. This may help a bit. Then enjoy the car as it gracefully enters old age. (P.S., you probably know that the auto trans is a major power sink compared to the manual transmission, but it's too late to do anything now about it.)

If you are using regular fuel, the engine management system may advance the timing and provide better response if you switch to premium. I do notice a difference with my 2001 non-turbo.

A low-restriction exhaust will result in more top end power, but it may reduce low end torque and make the engine seem more sluggish in everyday driving (unless your everyday driving is a lot more fun than mine).

How can I get more power on my S70?? Use the correct fuel S70

Always use the fuel grade that the owners' manual specifies. Some folks use a lower grade fuel, and the engine management system does prevent knocking within limits, but it is false economy. At 240,000 miles, ride into the sunset happily. Let us know when it reaches 300,000 miles!
