Replacing O2 Sensor V70-XC70

...And for my next Volvo project I wanted to replace the O2 sensor. I got under the car and found the sensor upstream of the catalytic converter. I then followed the wire along to where the connector was -- between the transmission and the firewall.

Boy, no matter how I tried to get my hand on the connector I couldn't do it. There was always something in the way. I'm wondering if there's a good way to get at these connectors? Everything else looks straight forward except unconnecting the old sensor and connecting the new one. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get access to the O2 sensor connector?

I have the XC turbo engine so the extra plumbing may be part of my problem.

Thanks,

RGW

It can be reached from the top...but also a tight fit.

Yep, a long arm helps but if you stand on something 6-8" tall it helps a lot. The connectors are kinda peculiar until you see how they work. You pull up on a gate like device that does not come off the connector. You may need to pry it a little with a small screwdriver to get it started. Once it's all way up, the o2 sensor end of the connector will unplug. The two connectors are also mounted on a standoff. Removing them from the standoff will give you some slack. Look on volvospeed.com/bay13 for pics.
