OBD II Code Reader S70

Ok that's it - Pep Boys wants $25 to re-set my engine service light last month when i change my own oil (I covered the light with tape) and now I called the local dealer to see what code read would cost and they said $147 - just to read the codes!! I can buy my own scanner for that price, so I think I will.

Which ones are recommended? For example I see this one for $99, but it doesn't say if it's Volvo compatible:

Also, I wonder if anyone else living in the SF Bay Area would be interested in a rental/sharing arrangement for a reader?

ignition key to position I. push in and hold the odometer rest button (use your left hand). move the ignition key to position II. wait until you see the service light blinking. then release the odometer rest button . This should reset the 'service' light.

      WRONG for '98 S70

Oh, but you are soooo wrong. This will not work on a '98 S70.

It will work on later model year S70's. If you have one of these you're lucky in regards to resetting the light....just not lucky that you also have the ETM.

I really doubt Pep Boys can reset your service light. I have a special tool for that...Draper Reset tool...look for it on eBay...otherwise it's the dealer. I also have a scan tool. The reason I have two tools like this is because the scan tool can't reset a '98 Volvo service light. I have the Equus Innova 3100 and it reads all the really important codes but not Volvo specific. If you want Volvo specific you're going to have to buy software for a computer that hooks up to your car or buy Volvo's which runs several thousand bucks. You can also find the Innova readers on eBay...less than what you're looking at.

Wow that is so stupid! Why can't the OBD II tool reset sevrice light?
      Grr

Well I think I still want an OBD scanner so I can get the codes regarding the gamma light that's on. Any recommendations?

MIJ already suggested the Equus 3100. I'll second that, and add some comments:
