Ok that's it - Pep Boys wants $25 to re-set my engine service light last month when i change my own oil (I covered the light with tape) and now I called the local dealer to see what code read would cost and they said $147 - just to read the codes!! I can buy my own scanner for that price, so I think I will.

Which ones are recommended? For example I see this one for $99, but it doesn't say if it's Volvo compatible:

Also, I wonder if anyone else living in the SF Bay Area would be interested in a rental/sharing arrangement for a reader?
