Alarm System V70-XC70 1999

1999 V70 AWD 120000 miles

Just finished changing out Heater Core, Rad, Rear Brakes, Front Struts, Mounts and Spring Seats + New Tires and 4 Wheel alignment. Took some time but saved a lot in labor. Very happy with the results. My question is that I noticed that my factory alarm system is not working. The little red light on the dash stopped flashing. Where do I start to diagnose the problem?

Ok I figured this one out (with some help). Seems it's most likely the hood latch sensor. In my case, simply opening and closing the hood and then pressing down on each corner of the front of the hood fixed the issue. If your sensor is actually broken its most likely going to need to be replaced. I'd start with opening and closing the hood though.

AMAZING, I am experiencing THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!

Just happened today, too. Car was tuned up Today (12/26) - plugs/thermostat/filters/oil change - and now experiencing the exact same problem.

Alarm will not arm - LED on dash won't light up, and the turn signals don't flash when locking the doors.

So hopefully someone can help us out, please?

BTM, mine is a 1999 V70 T5 5 speed, 98k

Your post just triggered in my mind what is happening. I am having the same problem and was looking at the forum for ideas. I recently adjusted the hood release cable on my 1999 V70 XC because only the passenger side would release. I guess I didn't notice right away but my alarm was not setting. I just went outside and opened the hood, pushed the wires for the hood sensor tighter in their housing, (the left, driver's side hood latch has the wires) and reclosed the hood while pushing firmly on the driver's side. The alarm is now working again!
My guess is the hood pin has to be "home" firmly in the latch for the sensor to work.
