Replacing Camshaft position sensor S40-2000 US S40-V40

Looking for instructions or hints on how to replace camshaft B position sensor for S40-2000 US - exaust camshaft
Check engine light comes on/off, scanner reads camshaft pos sensor error code.

I see this sensor under the plastic cover on the top of the engine, but not sure what is exact replacement procedure.
Can this be something else that causes this error?
Sensor is $170 special order...

Any help really appriciated.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Thanks

Replacing Camshaft position sensor S40-2000 US S40-V40

I believe that sensor I found on the top of the engine is not a camshft position sensor.

the one I found has connector right on the sensor, no wires.
Instructions above and picture from the web showing 20inch cable.

Can someone point me whare is this sensor?
Any pictures?

Thanks!

Replacing Camshaft position sensor S40-2000 US S40-V40

Ok, I found it now, it is on the opposite side of the engine.
The one I saw earlier was probably reset valve mentioned in the earlier post.

Thanks for directions!

Have you cleaned the connector by unplugging it and replugging several times?

I've been having a similar problem on my 2001 every winter for 3 years now (everything is ok in the summer - the code goes away). The error code reads camshaft reset valve. My volvo garage changed the part as the first step in troubleshooting (sounds like it's the same part as yours), but the problem got even "worse".. I guess the new sensor is more sensitive. Since then, the dealer and the garage told me that the problem is likely related to sludge in oil system and that these cars or prone to this, but that the problem does not affect performance. It would make sense as the previous owner only changed the oil every 13k km. I've been trying to flush it out for a while with products and synthetic oil, but so far the problem is still there.
I'll be off to the garage next week (time permitting) and will keep you posted.

Does your light come on on start-up, or wile driving? (mine is a few seconds after start-up). Do you know if the oil changes were done regularly from the start of the car's life?

Anthony

No, mine reads camshaft position sensor, not camshaft reset valve, I don't remember exact code value.

It may be the same, just different wording on different code reader, who knows.
If light was off, it may come after 2-3 minutes of driving and will stay for 3-4 days coming right at the start. After that it will stay off for 3-4 day and this goes over and over.

It started in the fall, but I don't belive this is a temperature related, because it's relatively warm here this winter.

I am the original car owner since 1999 and changing oil about every 4-5K miles, at least twice a year, more frequent than volvo is manual is asking (7.5K miles). Replacing filter as well.

But I am driving only about 6K year - car has only 42K miles on it and completely falling appart.

I can live with this problem, but next year I have to pass state emission check that now is a simple ODBII code reader.
If light is on - you failed automatically.
