code p0302 S70

definitely cylinder #2 problem. I pulled the #2 plug wire out and there is no difference in the way it runs. When I pull the others you can see the difference it makes in the way it idles. I swapped the spark plug with another plug and it is still a #2 cylinder problem so it is not the spark plug. The wires are not that old and they are good volvo wires. Engine uses plenty of oil even though there are no leaks and little, if any smoke. When I took the spark plug out and started the engine there is a strong spark from the wire and plug. I would think that I have a valve problem but would that cause a p0302 error?

thanks in advance for any advice.
