Crank pulley alignment (TB) and where to find serp procedure 850 1995

I looked at Bay13, and saw the excellent pictures and procedure for TB replacement. I have one question - I didn't see or read about lining up the mark (referred to in the text) on the crankshaft pulley with anything. I also, BTW, saw that it is custom to put a label on the cover, so I am hoping (other post) to verify when it was last done.

As far as serpentine belt, I thought I saw a procedure a year or two ago for the 850. I see some comments about making a 1" long 3/4" square (I assume) piece to assist, I saw the good diagram about rerouting the longer belt, but I can't find anything more. Maybe I don't need more. Anyone know of where this may be (I checked matthews site and bay13).

These two things may become clear once I get in there - thought someone who did it may be able to point me in the right direction. TIA Don

    On my 850 I found a relatively prominent mark against which the crankshaft pulley notch could be aligned. It was not hard to see with a bright light. Look for the mark and align the pulley before you pull the old belt. That way if something moves or slips it will be obvious how to get it back.

    The serp belt bit is in the Bay 13 listing under engine. This replaces the original shorter belt.

    I made my own 3/4 tool. Used an old square nut and screwed in a bolt securely. Now I use a long box end wrench to pull on the tensioner. Strictly from the bolt box. Also saw where someone had some 3/4 inch square stock and cut a piece which works well.

      Dick - unless I am missing something, I find two links at bay13 pertaining to the serp. One is a PDF of the routing for my car. The other is the procedure for '99 to '00 x/c/v70. Don

        Perhaps I am misunderstanding. The PDF if what I was referring to. The cam or timing belt has no markings so you have to line up the cam markings as per the article and the crank marking. I fortunately bought the IPD tool which holds the cam gears and makes the job quite simple. The routing of the belt I am not certain where I found that, perhaps Chiltons. Let us know what you encounter.

          I had one question each on two belts 850 1995

          Timing belt. Bay13 mentioned a hard to find mark on *crank pulley*, but I didn't see what to line it up with. The camshaft gear markings and alignment discussion I followed easily.

          Serpentine belt. I mentioned what I did find at bay13. Probably making this too difficult. I see an apparent 3/4" square depression in the tensioner. There used to be a site that had a picture of this, and I thought a tip how to proceed, but I can't find it. Is it as easy as torquing the tensioner while you slip the belt over the last pulley? The only hard part is the routing, is what it sounds like (which I see the pic of). Does it matter which pulley I leave for last?

            Way back when, Tina did her serp belt in about an hour! She used a 3/4 socket bit to move the tensioner and locked it with a small allen wrench. It is not a hard job at all. I wish the TB could have easier access, instead of the wheel well.

              I had one question each on two belts 850 1995

              Now that allen wrench sounds familiar. Maybe that's what I recall. I'll use this info on my own car.

              I didn't buy the wagon. The yahoo didn't have a title for it after I rode a bus 280 miles to pick it up. I hope he sells it soon - he is running at least 90k on his serp and timing belts (the serp had a bunch of cracks). It rode nice. Engine had an overheated look about it, and records verified that had happened at one point. The oil level I could not read despite several attempts - it had a whiteish yellow foam appearance on the stick going way up, with small drops of what appeared to be water each time I tried. Looked funky even though it was changed 4 months, unknown miles ago. Ext roof windshield trim had that peeling thing going on, lots of scratches in the paint. Full set of tires bought 25k ago, but one had a lot of wear and was now the spare (with a different brand taking its place). He had done a lot of common maintenance, but the ignition exhibited an intermittent behavior (lights not on, abs on until tweaked), and a 3 month old Volvo report in his file advised a new Turbo (and a new ign switch). It hadn't been safety inspected b/c Volvo said they couldn't. The final straw was when we stopped at a parking lot, I found a large spot of fresh oil under the front side of the engine. I couldn't tell if it came from the car or not. Between all these facts and suspicions, I took another bus back home and canceled the insurance I had just gotten.

              So much for buying a car sight unseen. As far as the timing belt, yeah I read the procedure and it sounds interesting. Don
