cruise control S70 1998

2nd go 'round for cruise control..Have done all the following diagnostics- checked all vacuum lines for cracks, found none, all hold vacuum. Tested vacuum diaphragm on accelerator pedal, works ok. Checked brake pedal release, works okay also. Removed battery tray, and accessed vacuum pump mounted underneath. No cracks/observable defects in pump, connected it to a vacuum gauge, applied 12 volts to it, it pulled and held a consistent vacuum level. I';m thinking my problem is something electrical, with a sensor or the switch in the turn signal stalk. Can anyone tell me what sensors I have, and how to test them? a schematic sure would be helpful...

Is the actual cruise control, which looks like two relays, ok? Located in the relay box under the hood. Requires removal of 4 T-25 screws. Might remove and replace, wiggle it a little.

What is the condition of your ABS unit?
The speed signal from the ABS unit is used for the cruise control.
No cruise control? MOST of the time means bad ABS unit.

I recommend you go to Ebay and purchase a copy of Vadis including the electrical schematics on DVD. Search for "volvo vadis" you'll find many listings - the latest one selling for about $12.

Very good value for money and everything is there. I just had a look at mine - too much info to put on this board. Good Luck Phil

I have a schematic for a 1995 850, which is going to be the same. But you are not registered with this board and have no email address...

Hi,
perhaps you should have it tested via OBD. In my old 850 one can do it DIY, but and get error codes for male functions. you need ODBII device or service.

A generic OBDII scanner will not work. You are correct about 1995 and earlier with a B2 port, too bad Volvo got rid of the 2 little boxes.
