S70 Intake Removal Help..... S70 1999

My dipstick has been blowing out lately and my car has developed a small oil leak. Went to the dealer and purchased an oil seperator kit thinking that I could do it easily and save myself the $400.00+ dealer bill. I tore it down the other day to go ahead and replace my oil seperator and was not able to get my intake off of the engine due to a hose coming up from under and through the intake to my fual rail. I'm assuming that it's the fuel line. I cannot get this hose off so I can remove the intake and gain access to my oil seperator. I know it's probably been asked 1,000,000 times on here, so if you could just point me to the instructions, that would be fine. I looked under the faq section and could not find the instructions for my year vehicle. Thanks for any and all help you guys can give me! You guys have saved me a ton of $$$ in the past with your suggestions and advice and I thank you dearly for that!
sorry for double post but could not delete first one and wanted the e-mail notification for answers.

I know they change things from year to year, but on my 1998, the fuel line comes up to the passenger side of the injector rail and the return line follows the incoming line ddown the firewall side of the engine and both METAL lines are attached to the block before going rearward.
Your description of this black hose, sounds like a vacuum hose that goes down from the intake manifold, behind the power steering pump and back around the engine. That black vacuum hose is attached to the manifold and will come off, but be careful with the elbow where it goes around the block. The elbow can become brittle with age and crack/break.

I wish it were warm up here so I can finish my car!

Here are the links to the pictures I took of my intake and engine. I have arrows drawn in both to show exactly what I am talking about.

Intake Manifold Removal HELP..... S70 1999

Sorry FUBAR. Volvo strikes again! Makes me glad I didn't buy a 1999.
That looks like a connection out front (red arrows), but I ccouldn't tell how the fuel line comes apart. Perhaps sending an email to fixit2003 with a pic would help?
The rail holding the injectors will also need to come off and perhaps the missing piece of puzzle is behind it, along with the FPR.

I have never tried to remove the fuel rail from this car. I thought about removing it, but was scared that I would break something and have to purchase new injectors. How does it come off?

The injector rail is easy enough. Unplug the electrical connection to all of the injectors, unscrew the rail and pull straight forward. It is reccomended that the injectors get new O rings when reassembling. If you are careful, you can get by with the old ones. Be careful, the O rings at the top of the injectors can fall out of the rail and disappear!

Intake Manifold Removal HELP..... S70 1999

Thanks Klaus. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Rule 308, do you know where I can purchase this special tool for the fuel line? Does it come apart at the connection that sticks out above and in front of the intake? Thanks for all your help guys! This website keeps my car running! I guess I need to make a contribution!!

Thanks Klaus. I'll post some pics tomorrow to show you exactly what I am talking about. There is one larger black plastic/rubber hose that comes through the intake which is a vaccum line that goes down to the oil seperator and then there is the fuel line. The fuel line attaches to the center of my fuel rail. I'm not sure exactly where the return line is, but there is only one that attaches to the fuel rail. This black hose I am talking about, the fuel line, is much too hard and inflexible to be a vacuum line. Anyway, I'll upload some photos to my photobucket account tomorrow and post the links to them. I'm really sure that all of my problems are stemming from this oil seperator. I'm getting oil into my intake and throttle body where it is being sucked by the vacuum. The car has 189,000 miles on it........86,000 were put on during the last two years! I purchased the car on March 30 of 05 with 103,000 miles. I just had the timing belt job done waaaay past the recommended mileage, so I was lucky. It was starting to fray on the sides! This job seemed so simple and quick at the start...... :(

Sorry, but that thread tells me nothing about how to get the fuel line loose. I had EVERYTHING loose or off that I needed in order to get the intake off EXCEPT the fuel line. I could not find a threaded part, or a part that comes apart at all. The fuel line runs from the fuel rail down through my intake manifold and disappears behind the accessory belt on the passenger side and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it off or loose.

You need the special tool to disconnect that fuel line and you need to pull the fuel rail with the injectors. Once this is done you can wiggle it out, it is a bit of a bitch but it can be done. The hose that goes under the coil cover on the top of the engine can simply be pried off with a big screwdriver. In fact, you can pry it off with the clamp attached and knock it back on with a rubber mallet with no ill effects. I guess you can see why the dealer wants as much as they do for this one.

I guess I'll be looking around for a special tool to get the fuel line unhooked. I didn't think it would be a walk in the park, but I don't mind a little hard work to save some $$. Now, as long as this tool is less than $300.00 then I'll still come out ahead! Thanks man!!!
