starts then dies V70-XC70 1999

Hi everyone, got a strange intermittent problem that just surfaced. 99 V70 2.4litre 162hp starts then quits. try again and the engine just turns over without firing, turn key all the way off again, try again and it starts 3rd time if I give it a little throttle. Did a battery load test - all good. checked for codes - nothing showing. Outside temp 39F or 3C. Happens on cold start or warm. Any suggestions?
thanks in advance

Randall,

I have had this happen on my 1999 NA V-70 for the last few years!. Apparently it is the antenna ring. You may want to do a search. I think I used the same heading "Starts then dies" as you a couple years back.

What I found works is change keys.

You can also take the key out of the ignition. Turn it around, return to pos 2, back to 0, return to 2, back to 0, then start it. What a rigamarole, but it works. Stranger than fiction, eh?

The other alternative is take it to the dealer. I know of one fellow on the BB that did just that and they fixed it with software reprogramming.

Again, try doing a search and I'm sure you'll come up with my post and others.

Good luck

Marty Wolfson

Thanks Marty,
I'll try the key thing next. I'm sure someone will suggest that I stand on one leg facing North East and juggle three squirrels while attempting ignition. Seriously, thanks for your input. If it works I'll buy you Beer when you're in town. Thanks again
RR
