It's been ten years...how to program key fob? 850

The last time I did this was ten years ago.
If I remember, to program the key fob you turn the ignition on/off five times, leaving it on the fifth time. At this time the led should stay on and all you have to do his hit either lock or unlock, at which time the car learns the new code. Problem is, the car is not going into program mode when turning the iginition on/off five times. I did this ten years ago when I purchased a second fob. I just purchased a third fob (yes it is the right one) for my son and the car refuses to go into program mode. Any ideas?

Hi, KEYLESS REMOTES can LOOK the same, but be different. Look at the part number (generally a 7 digit number)on the back and make sure it is exactly the same as the ones you have that are working. Then check the battery (switch with working one). Then, if you follow the steps mentioned below, 4 on-off's and the on, the reprogram should work. Good luck, Brad

Turn the ign sw on and off four times. Turn it ON the fifth, point the fob at the middle of the dash. Hit any button. (It actually pgms the car to the fob.)

OK, I'll try that tonight. I swear I remember the LED coming on and staying on after the fifth time, and then fluttering when the new code was accepted, but then again, it was a l o n g time ago!

Never did work on my 854T :(
Documentation I have says the LED is supposed to flash at the 5th key to on, go steady for a few seconds as it programs the remote, then flash again for the next remote, etc.
Mine does not flash and the remote does not work. When I first bought the car, I had the dealer take a look and he said I did not want to pay him the money required to make it work. All of the other functions of the alarm system work with the key. I even stole a 1993 transceiver and plugged it in, no go.
I only have one remote anyway, it makes for a good fob. That way I can tell which key belongs to which car :)

Where do you find all of these old parts :)

If the part number is not the same on the back of the fob, then I doubt it will work. Volvo has always used parts until the inventory gets used up. Remote fobs were not one of these. They kept changing them from year to year and they were year specific.

Klaus, I stripped my 94 to the bone after I rear ended the car in front of me.She was very nice no one got hurt. only 5 mph. But we were really hit'in the hooks ... Her butt was up, my nose was down. Missed bumpers. The only parts that were bad ... 2 headlight assy's, rad, intercooler,hood,grill,2 HL wiper assy's and a bumper. State Farm totaled it and let me buy it for scrap $400.00. I took the settlement and bought a 1996 850 turbo. Told you way too much.

              Have a good one.
