Leaking red stuff/oil on 95 850 wagon 850

I noticed a very very small bit of brown stuff on the driveway over the past few weeks.....now a friend looked under the car and said there is some red stuff dripping down, and also some darker stuff that looks like oil, but he couldn't tell. Any ideas?? The car drives well, so no other problems I know about. Thanks for any tips!

    Well, you are going to have to get under the car and take a look. It could be transmission fluid or power steering fluid, the only red liquids in the car.
    Cjeck the fluid levels for the PS and tranny to see if either are low.
    We need to know where under the car the fluid is dripping from to help you more. Use paper towels to wipe the metal parts clean, wind can direct the fluid to strange places before it drips.

      I checked and it's definitely a match with the transmission fluid--I'm going to drive it to temperature and check if it's low. It is a light brownish red, and the leak is definitely beneath the dipstick, but I couldn't get underneath far enough to clean/see exactly where it's coming from.

        Then it is probably the fliud return pipe where it goes into the side of the tranny. Those have known to crack on rare occasion. Just follow the return line from the radiator to the tranny - bottom line.

    So I read this might be transmission fluid. Any idea how much to fix this--or why it's leaking? I haven't had any work done on the car recently that might prompt this. I changed the battery...that's it. Thanks.
