Trailer Hitch Questions 850

I would like to be able to tow a trailer from NYC south to Fla and I don;t know what's involved in getting and installing the correct trailer hitch. The U-Haul site recommends a class1 hitch (2000 lbs.) minimum. should I get a class 2? I will not be hauling much stuff, just a 4X8 enclosed trailer.

Anybody that can help will be appreciated.

thanx

There's no shortage of 3500 pound hitches for your car including the factory hitch and those below. That's what you would want to get.

Check your manual, I think it says the max towing capacity is 3500. In my opinon you should match hitch to capacity as you almost always load them heavier then you think you will.

I would even say to go the extra for electronic brake controller to contol the trailer's brakes. Although might not be required for 2000 & under trailers. But I think better safe then sorry.

Check the back of your owner's manual, it has usful tidbits about towing and maximum capacities. Rental companies require a 2 inch ball.
