Rear wheel binding

From the artist formerly known as Bill M
I'm doing rear brakes pads and rotors. Had to adjust the parking brake. Could I have some tips on re adjusting it? Seems it was never properly done. Right now there's some light scraping when I turn the tire, that could also be the pads being tight. I also noticed some slight rubbing with the dust shield. I also broke one of the clips that hold the lines. Please post advice, tips, jokes, or admonitions. Thanks very much

When you took off the old rear rotors, did you have problems with the brake shoes being in the way? Did you loosen the cable at the center console first?

The shoes are held in position with a couple of steel brackets which bend/break and are normally rusty. These brackets are small and should have been replaced. It could be that the shoes are no longer in the correct position and are now rubbing against the drum portion of the rotor. BTDT :)

Adjusting the parking brakes at the wheel is easy, as Rule308 says, but the adjustment at the console should be loose when you do this. Tighten the console end to adjust the pull at the handle.

Yes I did have the problem getting them off, and then stopped and loosened the cable and the shoes, because I had a faint memory of reading about someone getting into trouble by forcing them. :} I'm hoping they didn't get wrecked. I'll try the adjustments first I guess, and then if they're still bad, go for the brackets. I could do the shoes and everything, but now is not the time. Can't do any of it today, it's raining under my shade tree. Thanks very much

Adjust it up until the wheel won't turn and then back it off 3 clicks. And hey, quit breaking stuff!
