Hello All,
I recently saw a posting here that Volvo plans to phase out the metal medallions with plastic widow decals. This is a decision by Ford to centralize vendors and save money. This is a perfect example of the stupidity of Ford, and why it along with DCX will soon be parked in the "Big Garage in the Sky". I may be shot for saying this, but I wish BMW would buy Volvo from Ford. BMW would be a much more enlighted corporate parent.
I'm proud to have those high mileage metal medallions on my cars. I have two 100,000 and one 200,000 medallion. Soon I'll be hitting the 300,000 mark on one of my cars. If you want to help reverse this decision, send a letter expresssing your displeasure to:

Unfortunately, I don't have an e-mail address. However, I've been advised these letters will be read, and if there are enough the decision could be reversed. I've already sent a letter. so please join me. Thanks.

do like I did--request your medallions NOW. THEY DON'T ASK FOR VERIFICATION.

I have an extra copy of the form and they do ask you to verify the mileage. Now since these badges are nice but really to the benefit of Folvo (free advertising -- people are usually shocked by how many miles my car has), I'd be unwilling to attest to mileage that my car doesn't have, or isn't likely to have soon.
Maybe VCOA could reproduce and sell the badges itself? Just a thought.

The following is the canned response to my email regarding the switch from enameled high milage badges.
Thank you for contacting Volvo Cars.
Volvo is in the process of revising the High Mileage Club and will no longer offer medallions.
Applicants will receive a window decal as well as an official certificate.
We appreciate your comments regarding the High Mileage Club. It is through customer feedback
that we are able to adapt our products and services to meet consumer needs.
Please be assured that your comments have been forwarded to the appropriate department for
internal review.
Sincerely,
Bill Clark

These cars last too long! I had thought of trading in/selling my V70 for something better. Lots of shopping, and I couldn't find anything better!! I guess I will have to wait another 5-10 years, when all of the interior parts get brittle and fall off.

So about 10 years ago my wife looked at the Volvo window sticker and wiggled her nose. "Oh, I said, "It's a VOLVO, it gonna be good for at least 10 years or 200,000 miles!"
Anyway I've traded up to a high-speed internet conection, so to speak. I'd buy a BMW except I'm too much of a cheapskate to have a $60k hunk of iron that I don't drive too much rusting away in my driveway. The 10 year goal is still likely but the 200k mile sticker is probably a long shot at this point.
I'm probably going for a 2008 VW GTI in the Fall, but I'll still keep the Volvo for a little while longer.

I just wish the plastic wouldn't recycle itself while it is still hanging on my car!!
As for fish preserved in lye... Not for me. Walleye is much better!
As for new car shopping, get a roll of pennies and then open the hood and toss them in. If you can find 10 or more on the showroom floor, then buy it.

Both my musician wife and musician daughter seem to favor Honda minivans at the moment.
Volvo steel (and lutefisk) is nice, but surrounded by lots of air space may be even better.
