1998 S 70 A/C Clutch or Compressor Replacement S70

Can the A/C clutch be replaced without removing the compressor, alternator and powersteering pump?...from below...looks tight but might be possible

Are there specific directions online anwhere to do this job?

If I need to remove the compressor, do you remcommend changing both the compressor and the clutch? I'd hate to put the clutch in today and the compressor tomorrow or next year. How long do the compressors normally last?

Also, the compressors I saw online come without a temp switch. How do I jump out the temp switch if I need to take this route?

Thanks for your help in advance.

It can be done, but takes some time and creativeness. You can adjust the clutch air gap without replacing the clutch this way also. I just followed some instructions from another site. Take your time and psych yourself us.

Good luck,

dick

I do not find the clutches going out in these cars until they have usually 150K+ on them so for that reason I always sell new compressor/clutch assemblies. Right out of the factory Vadis manual the way to remove that clutch and or compressor is out the bottom. Remove the accumulator and you will have the necessary room to get the compressor out the bottom. If you intend to replace the clutch only I would still pull the entire assembly out and put it on the bench where you can work on it rather than wrestling with the darn thing still in the car.
