Just made the 100,000 mile mark -- time to change the tranny fluid V70-XC70 2000

I've been looking forward to changing the tranny fluid hoping to put in one of those super synthetic products to make my transmission shift a little smoother.

The question is which one to pick? There's the stock stuff from the dealer ($$$) then there's Mobil1, Red Line, AmsOil and maybe a few others.

Looking for some guidance here. Is it best to stay with the stock fluid or for the same money go with a premium aftermarket brand? Also, would like to hear from someone who has changed the tranny fluid with one off the premium brands and experieced a noticed improvement in shifting. I've heard these stories and would like to experience the same with my XC.

Thanks,

RGW

If you haven't changed the fluid yet, it is, at least in my opinion, definitely time (or past time) to do so.
I have AMSOIL in my 850 turbo tranny, put in by my kids when they bought the car some 90,000 miles ago. I plan to change what is in the pan as soon as I get a chance to do so.

A biased opinion, since I've been using and selling AMSOIL for almost 30 years now:
Go with the premium synthetic ATF over the OEM. Cost is minimally more for a better product. If I couldn't, or wouldn't, use AMSOIL, I'd likely go with Mobil 1.

Since you are an Amsoil dealer, what does the Amsoil ATF cost per quart? Where do I get it (I've never seen it in stores) and are some dealers cheaper than others?

Suggested retail is $9.05 per qt, 10 cents a qt less by case of 12 qts.

Set up an AMSOIL account, buy wholesale at $78 per case.

All prices plus tax and shipping.

You can get it from local dealer (check Yellow Pages). Some retail stores (but not the big chains) carry the products.

If you can't find it locally, you can email me at DickinFallsChurch at msn.com,
or give me a call at 703 966 8902 (cell).

don't wait my friend...I've lost two trannies on two seperate 850s just after they crossed 100K. The trannies have no filters! As regards syn vs. dino oil, I swear by M1 in my crankcases in all 4 of my Volvos, but frankly if you are going to flush your slushbox oil every couple of years, plain Dex should be fine, $12/cs at BJ's. I guess syn is a good idea if you plan on going another 100K without a flush, but that would be stupid.
