Is This an ETM Problem? S80 2001

My '01 S80 has 150k miles on it. I had the ETM software upgraded in December. Recently the car has no acceleration, especially from a standstill or going uphill. Combine the two and its a disaster. The check engine light is blinking, although sometimes when I am at a stoplight it will stay lit until I start moving again. Gas mileage is way down, probably due to accelaration problem. Engine seems to be idling rough although not as bad as before the software was upgraded.

Does this sound like the ETM needs to be replaced? I don't go to the dealership for repairs, but obviously I would if it would be covered.

I would say it is also a bed coil or two. Replace them all and change the plugs with Volvo OEM at the same time!

Get the codes read, ASAP. A blinking CEL is a severe problem and says to pull over now.
The ETM is the least of your worries, besides, if it goes you won't.

What makes you say that blinking CEL is a "severe" problem? I have never heard or read this anywhere. I've had it blinking before and it turned out to be very minor issue. Also, I have been driving the car for almost 2 weeks since it started blinking. In the past I've seen message consoles that say "Pull Over ASAP." Why wouldn't I see that in this case.

A blinking check engine light is a problem that could damage the catalytic converter.
I have only seen it once, and it was caused by a bad coil. (meaning that raw fuel was being dumped into the exhaust system, which is bad for the cat.)

If the Check Engine light is on continuously, rather than blinking, during the drive then vanishes next the time I drive, should I be concerned?
