My AC system reads a slightly high low pressure and it cools, but not as well as it should. Can this high low pressure reduce cooling?

I wonder what you mean by high. The pressostat causes the compressor to cut out at 23.2psi and engage at 45psi. If your low pressure always remains above 23.2, then the compressor will stay on all of the time.

Just in: Son let off a little more R 134 and temp now is super cold. In other words, overcharging DOES reduce cooling.

I was waiting for that bit of news. Now, could you tell us what the pressures are? I am trying to get mine in sync. Of course, my V70 could be leaking from the schrader valve. The 854T has a small leak in the evap, which I don't want to R&R :)

Son used one of these "id" kits that include the gauge. He said it was at the border of the blue and yellow or at 45 psi. Remember, it is 90 degrees here so pressure will be up. Anyway, the difference is great. Not bad for 200K on the old beast. This has been my FWD learning car after nearly 40 years of RWD Volvo's. Now the fleet is down to only two RWD's, both turbos and also high milers.

Believe using the "id" kit is the least expensive way to got good results. Very popular here in hot and humid College Station.

Am using one of those recharge kits with a gauge. I rebuilt the system a couple of months ago and it cools but not as well as our other Volvo's. Upon checking, the low pressure is too high. Will try bleeding off a little 134 and see if that works.
