00 s40 engine skip at idle & key hard to turn S40-V40 2000

Hello, I have a friend that has a 00 s40 1.8T, he is haveing 2 problems with it. first problem is the key is hard to turn in the ignition switch and unless you turn it to just the rite spot it will not crank, all electrical function seem to work unlike when the electrical portion of the switch goes out on say a 850/s70. I imagine the mechanical portion of the switch need to be replaced. What do you guys think has anyone had this problem before? The second problem is at idle it runs a little rough, like it is misfiring or skiping. When you put it in drive and staret going say over 10 mph it smooths out and runs great. I first thought plug wires, cap rotor and plugs, but no distributor. How do I test the individual coils, or should i start with changing plugs and spark plug connectors? Any advice would be greatly apreciated, he is a college student and realy can't afford to take iot in to get it checked out!

Thanks
Dennis

    Switch:
Inside the key is an electronic transponder and around the ignition switch is an antenna. If the two are not lined up, the engine will not turn over. The hard turning might indicate the mechanism is stuffed/moved, the not starting unless in exactly the right spot might confirm this.

    Engine missing at idle:
One possibility is the idle speed control valve is dirty and sticking, causing symptoms similar to missing. It is actually like a servo motor, if you know what that is, and not just an open/close valve. I am no expert on the following, but from memory a blocked crank case ventilation system can also cause such symptoms but am not sure.

Please let us know what happens, always good to get feedback.
