V70R - rear seat belt replacement. Anyone have details? V70-XC70

Hello,

I'm trying to help a friend with her '98 V70R (and I'm curious, too, since I have a '98 V70 AWD). The rear seatbelts on both the right side and the center are literally cut about halfway through in some sections...almost like someone intentionally cut them.

I need to replace them for her but I'm puzzled by what is required. I already broke the 5 little plastic plugs/clips that hold the upper trim piece on and that didn't expose the ratchet mechanism, anyway. So I need to hit up Volvo for them and hope they still sell them. I can unbolt the belts from the floor...that's straight-forward enough. But it seems like the rest of the belt is somewhere midway up in the seat, almost like the upholstery needs to come off. Is this true? Does the rear cargo cover assembly need to come out, too? Does anyone have procedures/diagrams for this? It's a pretty nice 'R' and I'd hate to chew it all up for this but I'd also hate to send her to the dealer for this stuff since I've got a pretty well stocked tool-box and I USUALLY know how to use it. Not this time...

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Mike

Before you chew up more of your friends car, borrow it for a day and take it over to the Volvo dealer, so they can replace the belts. Those plastic bits are expensive! Since you volunteered, you pay the labor plus the plastic parts, she pays for the belt and beers.
