00 S4o rough idle, bad injector (Klaus) S40-V40 2000

Hello, I have a 00 S40 that has skip in the idle. Here is what i have done so far.
1. replaced the plugs, didn't fix it.
2. checked the coils all are plugs are getting spark.
2. checked vacum lines for sludge, none!

S0, I wanted to check and make sure each injector was working. So, Undid the cover above the fuel injector rail. With the car running, I unplugged each fuel injector one at a time. I started with 1 and went to the fourth one. When I unplugged the first through the 3rd one, it ran worst each time. When I unplugged the last one it ran the same. So, I believe that the last injector, the one that when I unplugged it did not change the idle, is bad and my car is basically running on 3 cylinders. Does this sound rite to you all. I appreciate any advice you guys can give me.
Thanks
Dennis

You found it! Great job! Now, start looking for a new injector or get that one cleaned. If the injector is plugged with dirt, a bottle of cleaner will not work. http://www.cruzinperformance.com/ based in Michigan does good work, but that means no car for a week.

If you have an Ohmmeter, first test the electrics by checking the injector plug to see that it is getting electricity while the engine is running.
The 850 injectors are so easy, they just pull out with the rail. The 1998 changed, the top of the injector rail has a metal plate that holds on to the injectors, so all of the injectors must be pulled out at the base before you can remove them from the rail. Your S40 may be different, and probably is.

There is a "special tool" to remove the injector. I use a 17mm wrench to pry it out from the manifold, pulling with my left hand at the same time. You may or may not need to replace the O ring at the top and bottom, depending on how it comes out. When putting it back in, just push the injector down until it feels snug. It's not rocket science :)

Good luck,

Klaus

00 S4o rough idle, bad injector (Klaus) How do I remove a injector S40-V40 2000

Hello, Klaus
Thanks for all of your advice, but I think I may have a bigger problem. I believe I have a dead cylinder. This is why I think so, see what you think.
As you know I moved the coils around and I am getting spark from the coils. So I thought before I ordered an injector I would try switching the bad one with a good one. so I did, So I thought if I checked all of the injectors the same way I did last time. I could make sure that one was bad. so, I unplugged each injector one at a time at idle. When I unpluged the one that I thought was bad it ran worse wich means that injector works fine on a diferent cylinder. so, I then checked the one that I put on the cylinder where the previos one was and when I unpluged it it ran the same. so, I have concluded that, all cylinders are getting spark and fuel. I check to make sure all injectors were getting power from the ecu and they are. So this 4th cylinder is getting spark and fuel but when I unplug the injector or the coil for that cylinder it runs the same. I think that cylinder is bad. I guess the only true way to check this would be to do a compression test on the cylinder. If it has a dead cylinder it is only a matter of time before it has catastrophic engine damage I believe. does this all sound rite to you?
Thanks
Dennis

I feel so bad for you. It is hard to believe that it could be a bad valve, output at that. Get a compression test and it will show you what you expect to find. Then it is either a valve job/head or the mechanic may think of something else. Lets hope. Find a good indie close to you.
