do 2.3 turbo motors go bad? 850

i have a chance to get a motor from a wrecked T-5R with only 80k on it.. the turbo has already been taken off of it..do u think its worth my time to bother pulling the motor, or do these engines not usually go bad? or would it be more practical to just pull the head and leave the rest of the motor?

I think the only diff in '95-96 was the ECU. Mine (non T5-R but not entirely std either) is still doing very well. As a quick check (not too quick or you'll cut your finger!) you can open the oil-fill and run your finger around the upper head / camshaft area. If there's any gunk, it's someone else's engine. If it's all clean and devoid of gunk, like its owner ran full synthetic, it's very likely a keeper. (Just bring along a band-aid just in case; not all the parts in there are finished to skin-friendly standards.)

If you want to collect R parts, get the head and the intake manifold, not the whole engine.
The 850 block and parts are pretty reliable.
