Driver power seat back would not recline 850 1993

The power seat back would not recline. I can hear the motor runs but the seat back would not move up or down. How can I check what the problem is? Where is the seat back motor located? Do I need the remove the seat?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

What a poor design. The motor is one one side of the seatback, the gear is on the other, and a cable makes an inverted U to connect the two.
I just cut the hog clips, reached my hand in and pulled down on the cable, at the gear or motor (forgot which side). Then hit the seat switch to move the seat back forward.

its the cable that connects the motor to the gears. do a search for power seat failure and you'll find a ton of info. i just did mine yesterday night, it works great now. basically it consists of removing four hog rings on the base and four along the front uphostery to gain access to the back. you then have to remove about an half inch of the cable outer plastic casing and reinsert into the gear box or motor. it works great but check out bay 13 for step by step instructions and pics. i like alot of others don't have a hog ring tool and used zip ties to reattach everything, alot easier with zip ties from the look of things. good luck.
