Hello All,

I recently waxed and polished by two '96 850 wagons and my '99 XC. In the process, I got liquid wax on the gray plaster bumpers which has left a stain. I saw a posting earlier to use a vinyl cleaner, similar to one used on vinyle floors. I did, but the wax stains persist.

Does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of theses stains. Thanks.

I have used the "BACK to BLACK" product on these wax stains w/ success over the yaers

The hot solution is peanut butter, the oil removes the wax. If you do not believe me, do a search or check the detailing forum at volvospeed.

Try a small spot as I have never used it myself.

The first time I waxed our '95 855 base. I waxed all the trim because the wax looked OK when I got some on the trim, NOT. It looked terrible when it dried.

I later painted the trim sand color to match the leather seats. The car is teal with sand trim and bumper covers, I think that it looks pretty good, I tell people who ask that it is the Eddie Bauer model.

This car has a "R" model front bumper and silver painted grills in the bumper. You can see how the trim and silver dresses up the car if if you go to the gallery and search for 850 models, Gayorg is the seventh car down - my 855R is just below it, it has silver painted grills also. Gayorg has a set of sand wheel covers for his snow tires.

Thanks for the responses I've received so far. I do have tar and bug remover (from NAPA). If that fails, I'll try Bon Ami

The peanut butter does work.......

I'll have to confine my dog if I ever try peanut butter..she'd eat the bumper right off the car! Then again, there'd be no wax to worry about, would there?

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are 2 turbos :)

I have used Bug&Tar remover (Turtle Wax brand) to get whitish Astroshield polish residue off the grey bumpers. It took several passes and quite a bit of rubbing (the bumper surface is dimpled), but worked ok.
I had previosuly tried SoftScrub and a toothbrush, but that had little effect.
