Door hinge strap problems 850

Just an FYI to those 850 owners who have a broken door hinge strap. Volvo parts and FCP Groton have new style hinge straps. The new straps require 2 10mm nuts with washer to secure the strap to the door. These do NOT come as part of the package and the dealer charges extra for the brass nuts/washers.

The old style, the one that came with the car, had 2 10mm bolts that threaded through the door into the hinge strap.

    Door hinge strap problems 850

Good point Klaus. I changed out my driver's side strap last year and ended up using nuts and washers from my loose hardware drawer. They work fine but are corroding. So, anyone else cheaping out with common nuts, once the part is mounted, it would be a good idea to spray or brush the nuts and exposed threads with Krylon.

A side note, I was amazed at how easy this job was to do. The door panel lifts off very easily after the screws on the lower edge, the latch paddle, speaker and leather insert are removed. Count on replacing the plastic fittings securing the leather insert above the arm rest and don't pull on it too hard. The paste board backing can rip around the clips.

The whole job took about an hour including a refreshment break.
