2000 S80 Transmission needs to be replaced????? Please Help S80 2000

6 months ago noticed the transmission was slipping, then check engine lite came on, took it to the shop i was told, the #2 selinoid on the transmission was bad he replaced it, car still slipping in the transmission, so he said the transmission was bad and needed to be replaced. That was 6 months ago, the wife drives it 100 mile a day round trip work and back, it still slips mostly in second gear, just when starting to go around 40 MPH. Could it be the torque converter, or was it the selionoid, or maybe a computer.
We also had to replace the steering colom electronics, because the turn signals, radio control, and high beem did not work.

I've just read that low transmission oil can produce slippage,got that from the Haynes manual.

Only know what I have heard re the S80 and transmissions. I know they were made by GM and broke down a lot. Best fix was replacement. You might call a good bone yard who specializes in S80 Volvo's.
