Left drive axle on '94 850 850 1994

I am replacing both drive axles. Done with the right axle, but I can't remove the driver's side. I've got the axle nut off and the end out of the steering knuckle, I just can't pull or pry the dam thing out of the gearbox! Right axle came out no problem, though I see that there is a small clip at the end of the left axle (the replacement part) that is not at the end of the right axle. I am assuming that this clip is not neccesary on the right side becuase it has a carrier bearing. I've used a large scewdriver as Hayne's suggests to pry between the gearbox and the axle to no avail. Also tried a larger pry bar. Perhaps a slide hammer is neccesary? Thanks.

I got lucky, b/c I took mine to the shop for the DS and did the PS myself. As you found (and I think most people do) the PS comes right out, and the DS does not.

My mechanic used the largest (conventionally shaped) prybar I have ever seen. It must have been about 3-1/2 feet long. I think there is a clip that causes it to hang up. *Be careful* not to damage the transmission seal or any rubber. Good luck.

Push in on the axel and pull out sharply. This worked for me although you have to jerk hard to unseat it. Sort of like a slide hammer such as suggested but it is built into the axel.
