Hi Sully. Now, take this with a grain of salt, but so far I'm doing okay with the '99 I just bought. I actually like it and I'm getting less and less apprehensive about "waiting" for the car to breakdown on me. A few warnings have flashed on here and there and the check-engine light has been on since I bought it (code reader on the way at a great price on ebay). The only troublesome thing to crop up is a leak in the steering rack (or high pressure hose). The rack could be expensive (about $500) and a bit of a chore to replace, other than that there's just been some annoying electrical stuff. It's really a comfortable car to drive with great features, plenty of pep and not bad looking. A few general things that bug me include possibly the worst rearward visibility of any car I can remember, especially with passengers in the back. That incudes a large side pillar that obstructs your vision to the blind-spot in highway travel (my habit is to glance over my shoulder when changing lanes). It has an equally disturbing [lack of a] turning radius, and the AM radio reception is horrible when the car is running (curiously, every now and again it works fine).
A recurring thought has been that it would be a great car if it didn't have the potential problems, so, if the bugs have been worked out, I would think the later models should be great cars, and I still do believe that there are good early models to be found as well, but it probably is somewhat of a crapshoot. Not much help here I guess, but a few more observations.
