A couple of transmission Q's please 850 1997

I have flushed every year for about 5. Car has 100K on it. What position should the shift lever be in to check the fluid level? It seems to slip a few revs before taking off. I do get a Tracs light occasionally. Don't know if they are associated.
Just did a flush last week. Could this be a PNP?
Thanks for any help.

Level is correct. The symptoms for that seem to have gone away. There is an intermittent Tracs, ABS light. I assume the Victor thing. There is also an intermittent CEL. I have a cheap code reader that reads four times and then resets the codes. The CEL will go away but return. I will get the codes from a Auto store later today. Engine seems to run OK.

Reccomended flush interval is 25-30K miles. Is the fluid really dark when you replace it?
The tranny fluid should be hot and the gear selector in Park with the engine running.
A PNP failure would cause CEL and flashing arrow along with no backup lights.

Make sure when you flush, that no bubbles come up through the tube with the fluid. Bubbles are an indication that air is getting to the pump which can destroy the pump. 2 quarts at a time will be plenty safe.

The TRKS light is not associated with the tranny, but with the ABS controller.

Thanks for the help. I'll check the level later today and let you know. It only had 15 - 17K but it was 85% stop and go showing houses. Was dark at first (first 4 qts) then got lighter. Wasn't terrible, but not clear either. When I flush, I let bubbles just appear, and shut off engine, add two and go again. I do it with someone literally sitting there with hand on key.
