Transmission Revmoval V70-XC70

I have a 1998 V70 N/A base model and the rear main seal (RMS) is leaking badly even after replacing the entire PVC system. How do I remove the automatic transmission? Can I remove it without pulling or lowering the engine?

I have replaced a clutch on FWD Mazda 626 several years ago. All I had to do was to loosen the front suspension, removed the axles, support the engine and slide it out. Quite easy actually. Is there enough room on the V70 to do the same? Would the Volvo OEM seal the best? Thanks.

I did one RMS early this year and it was quite a job. I used only Volvo seals as I trust them. Also replaced the torque converter seal. A good time to inspect things you don't want to have to do again requiring droping the subframe etc. You can remove the transmission from the engine (I did) but you need to lower the engine, driver side. You will need some tools which keep you safe as there is a lot of stuff above your head.

Best to get an Alldata subscription to follow instructions plus a Haynes and anything else to guide you. Anyway, it (the car)still is going with no leaks and you can do it yourself with patience and care.

Good luck,

dick

Hopefully others will chime in, but I was under the impression that one needs only to remove the driver's side suspension bits, lower the subframe on that side and remove the tranny.
There is nothing wrong with the OEM seal.

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
