fuel issues

Hello all,

Need some advice. My 94 855 smelled of gas this morning. took it to a local garage (not a foreign car specialist) and they checked it, dropped the fuel tank and think that the fuel pump is failing. would the leak/gas smell be related to the pump? and, if the pump needs replacement, can the fuel pump itself be popped into the existing assembly? they're trying to sell me the entire assembly. thanks in advance!

Ron

The shop you took your car to knows nothing about Volvos. Your tank did not need to be dropped! You don't need a new fuel pump. You may need a new seal or a bead of RTV, or you may need a new piece of fuel line.
The inspection plates are under the carpet just behind the rear seat.

thanks, Klaus. thanks to a few posts read on the brickboard, i figured the problem wasn't the fuel pump.

      regards,
