Electric window repair V70-XC70 1999

Hi Folks,

...my first post here,

My 1999 V70 AWD is great. 82 K miles and little things are starting to go...wear and tear I suppose.
The rear passenger sid electric window is not working....stuck in the down position.

I am reasonably handy and would like to try to fix this myself. Any tips or suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Joe
Albany, NY

    Electric window repair V70-XC70 1999

Hello, My driver's window would not come up. I removed the torx bolt behind the plug. The panel lifted UP off the door after popping out the lower portion with a 2 inch putty knife as usual. Unplug and free the panel. Work the master switch out. Use two small screwdrivers to walk around the switch seperating the switch levers from the contact block. There I found tarnished copper contacts and lint. Spraying with air and circuit board cleaner restored the window's operation. The RR window does not now move. I will repeat the fix using copper cleaner and contact spray. I will weigh the cost of a new master switch against the effort of repeat cleanings. Don't spray the rubbery skin on the switch levers with circuit board cleaner; it softens them. Any input re: brand of copper cleaner would be appreciated. After the repair the door lock pull knob was jammed. I think I bent it's rod when removing the door panel. Input on that would be appreciated too. Good luck to us all.

Does neither switch work, front or one on rear door? If the switch is the same as the 98 and I believe it is, you can clean up the contacts and make it work. I have done it on a 98 S 70 and it just takes a little time and patience to disassemble, clean the points and reassemble it.

    Good luck,

    dick
