The secondary air injection pump is bad, resulting in a check engine light. There is also a gas or exhaust smell, but it's not too bad. An independent shop who I've used before and who has a great reputation, as well as the local dealer, told me it's not necessary to fix. Both want $800ish to do the work. Can I get this part at a pick-n-pull (air pump & check valve...$650...ka ching!)? The gasket is just a few bucks. I'm a semi-skilled DIY kinda guy with a killer set of metric tools. Is this a tough job? I'm concerned the check engine light failing on will, if left uncorrected, mask a more serious emissions issue shoud it occur. Thanks!
