block heater for my 850 T-5R 850 1995

Just imported my Volvo 850 T-5R from a delear in Baltimore (good experience btw for other Canucks looking for a great deal) and since its now a cold clime car I need to put a block Heater in it, except I have no idea where it goes (I know ....under the hood but where under the hood !)my delear here in Winnipeg is quoting an astounding $$$ and i think we can put in it ourselves....am i being naive?
note: for all those watchful eyes out there I posted this question a few minutes in RWD forum in error .(I know what we Volvo owners are like ;;;lol) just blame it on my "newbie " status

It's a little colder up there than in the Twin Cities, but not by much. If advice on a block heater is not forth coming, then I would suggest three things.

Get a new battery, correct size and lots of CCA.

Use 5W30 synthetic engine oil with a Mann filter.

Flush your tranny and use synthetic fluid.

Majority of hard starts are due to the above 3 not being done. You have seat heaters, use them but make sure they are off when starting the car. Let the car idle for 30 seconds before engaging gear.
If you anticipate a hard start, disable the daytime running lights, turn off your headlights, turn off the radio, and turn off the automatic cabin fan - in other words, anything that can use electricity.
Using your headlights, daytime running lights for Volvo, draws too much power from the alternator to allow the battery to keep a full charge, so invest in a trickle charger for the long winter nights.

The block heater on FWD vollvo's attaches directly to the block and does not enter a coolant passage. It locates on the exaust sode of the engine, about 1/2 way between heaad and pan, and a few inches away from the water pump. I requires only simple tools to install but there is a retainer and spacer that are a pain ln the ass to get asembled and the bolt started in the hole. Noot rocket science, Just need a good light source and a little patience.
