Help!!! CV axle replacemnt - Removing differential seal 850 1993

I am replacing both CV axles on the 93 850. My problem is the damn differential seal won't come out. Is there a special tool? I've been advised to use a screwdriver and small block to get behind the seal and lever it our but this
doesn' seem to work and I'm nervous cuz the diff is aluminum & if scratched the tranny is screwed. Has anyone any experience in getting the seal out. I've been at it and am very frustrated. Can i just take a needel-nosed vice grip and tear the seal up and yank it out? Is the 93 am exception that the seal stays in & shouldn't be replaced???

help me I'm failing

Any auto parts store should have a specialty tool designed to pull seals.

The ones on my '97 came right out with a large screwdriver. I just levered them out.

I used the pliers method to remove the diff. output seals (manual tranny car). There's really not much to screw up really. Unless you're really careless you might, just might, scratch the outer bore that the seal goes into. That bore is not a big deal, all it does is hold the seal in an interference fit. You shouldn't be anywhere near the differential when prying the seal out (inside vs. outside the tranny).
