starter replacement? Easy? hard? 850

Hi All:

Anyone ever replace a starter on the 850? After 14 years mine is starting to get cranky. It must be a really good design to last that long. Haynes manual makes it look easy, but it looks to me like the radiator has to come out which is a real bummer of a job. Anyway....if anyone has any suggestions, would love to hear them.

Thanks.

Thanks All for the input. Took car to the local garage and had it installed for 1-1/2 hrs labor. He said the fan only had to come out as you all said. I would have tried it, but it's cold and rainy here in Michigan. Got the starter on Ebay for 50 bucks- it looked brand new and sounds nice.

Are you sure its the starter? Maybe a weak battery, or bad or dirty ground/hot connection. I find that starters either work or don't. If the starter drive is engaging, I would confirm that the other things mentioned aren't a problem first.

Radiator stays in place, just be careful not to bang against the fins, they bend easily and cut like razors. Relatively easy replacement.

Very easy to do. As other member said, remove the fan shroud. You will have plenty room to unscrew the old starter and install the "new" one.
