01 xc70 tranny V70-XC70

ok my transmission on my 01 xc70 is on the way out. i am not very knowledgeable on cars so pardon if this is just a ridiculous question but can a manual transmission be put into this car? thats the only thing that would make the car perfect is if it had a manual tranny and since i need a new one anyway i figured i would investigate the possibility of switching to manual. so if any of the volvo buffs that browse this forum could help me out with an answer to this it would be greatly appreciated.

you didn't mention how many miles are on your XC. My 01 has had the tranny replaced at 40,000 miles or so (under warrenty) due to a software upgrade caused problem.....saw the repair order from the Volvo dealer, they did not attempt to repair, just replaced it due to the 100K bumper to bumper warrenty. Thank God it was before I purchased. Knock wood but at 70K no problems even with my wife thrashing it around pretty good.

Yes, but at an unreasonable expense. Start looking around for a manual "R" if you want to have fun. There are a few T5 models with a stick, but no AWD.

I am curious as to why your tranny is "about to go bad". Is it slipping? Is the shift light blinking and the check engine light on? What color is the tranny fluid and have you thought about flushing it?

Just my own view -

Are you sure the problem you have now is a serious one? I would think even replacing the trans if required would be far easier than going to manual.

The manual gearbox is likely to require a myriad of changes including different engine mounts, maybe drive axles, different calibration of engine controls and sensors, different wiring harnesses and relay sets, etc, and lots of labor and new parts.

Unless it would be a hobby or fun activity for you, I'd either get the existing trans repaired/replaced or cut my losses and look for a different car.
