Klaus: XC/bevel gear'Leak'

Hi Klaus,
Hope you don`t mind being the "go-to-guy" here.
My wife took her 03 XC into the dealer this am. She told the service adviser about the possible bevel gear leak & he suggested that it might be condensation around the vent hole. Does that make any sense?
Anyway, the vehicle was due for major service as per warranty schedule so hopefully, all will be taken care of at this point.
Since my last post on this issue I`ve done some research on bevel gear unit problems & haven`t found anything on problems with post 03 XC`s. Not to say that there couldn`t be!
Thanks,
Rich

You are quite correct, the 1997-2001 AWDs had problems. I also have never heard of the new ones getting hurt. If the car is still at the dealer, you could ask him to flush the bevel gear, just to be on the safe side. Or wait until the next service date.

Then, again, the turkeys that change oil are not the brightest bulbs.

    The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
