computer milage from OBDII? 850 1996

My odometer gears failed 277K. Finally ordered the replacements. Is there a way to read the milage from the computer without going to the dealer from the OBDII? I should be getting close to 300K and want to have it fixed for the beg event. Closes dealer is 1.5 hours away.

Thanks! Keith

I have yet to see a generic code reader that can pull the mileage. Call some of the local indie shops and see if they have a Volvo scan tool.

Hi Klaus - was it you that posted the "do it yourself" reader that imitates what the pushbutton/led interface does on the 95 and earlier cars? My memory may well be wrong, or I didn't notice details, but my impression at the time it was posted was that the system post 95 was essentially the same, but you had to provide your own switch/led.

I'm sure you or someone else can clear my mind. Don '95 854T 185k

Things changed in 1996. If you could figure out which holes to use in the OBDII port... I don't think it will work in this case.
The wire/switch/bulb trick was to be used while sitting in the driver's seat to get real time diagnostics. I never built my own to try it out.

This looks like what I remember. It isn't real clear (to me) if the "ports" (pins?) have a correspondence to our sockets. The post mentions cruise control, climate control and ? It mentions driving over 20mph for the cruise, which I guess it what you mean by "real-time". It looks tantilizingly close to the 1995 system, if you know which pins to use. Just the use of an LED and switch makes one think it could function like ours.
