A retirement gift for my folks... and then a check engine light. V70-XC70

This past week I finally found for my mum a one owner, 1998 Volvo XC70 with only 82k overall. It was owned by a Grandma in Tennessee, was garage kept, and had been serviced at a Volvo dealership every 5k right up to the 70k mark. That's the good news. The bad news is it recently kicked back a code, "P0204 says "Injector circuit malfunction cylinder 4".

Over the last three years I've probably sold about 3 dozen Volvo's from the 1990's and not a single one ever kicked in this code. I'm thinking it may need a new injector (or a set) or it may possibly be that this represents a unique problem endemic to late 90's turbo models.

If anyone has experience with this code it would probably be several hundreds saved and a world of help. Thanks, and hope all is well.

I've never seen that code either.

I would reset the code, swap # 4 and # 1 injectors and see if the code returns to # 1 or 4.

You may have a bad injector. If so, it will move the code to #1 cylinder.

Coils are much easier to change, I would swap coils and clear the code to see what comes back.

Thanks, I'm going to give that a shot.
