Tire Recommendations for FWD v70 15' rims

I am running Kumho's that came with the car and they are 'just okay'.

I've heard these tires are poor in the snow and that I am going to want to change them.

One friend's suggestion was Conti's....

I've always done well with Michelin on my 200 and 900 series cars.....

Brother-in-law favors Yokahama Avid's....

I need a recommendation for a tire with good snow and wet weather traction (Michigan) and tread longevity (I am used to 80k tires....like the X-1).

Thank you in advance for your time and objectivity.

I had the same issue and I went with Sumitomo HTR+'s based on a recent issue of Consumer Reports that rated these tires extremely well in the snow - and they were only $65 each or so from TireRack. They are supposed to wear very quickly though (not an issue for me since I only put on 5,000 miles or so a year on my 850), so they may not be suitable.

Tire Recommendations for FWD v70 15' rims

I think the #1 important thing is to upgrade the size. 205/60-15 is THE size to use, no doubt. If you want LONG wear and great in rain, look at Yokohama TRZ, wear is 700. We have them on our CRV. Yoko H4S is very nice handling, but poor in snow. Wear is good at 500. I have Kumho ASX on my Accord Coupe, usually pretty good all-around but I do have a shimmy on this pair. Other time I used them they were good, except wear. If you want a sporty tire, Bridgestone G-009 is good, a very safe high-quality bet. I would not fault the Dunlop SPA2, soft ride, but great in snow. A good rule is if you will be using the tires more than a year, buy better ones. I ususally burn up a set every year, so I try to save some money but I also just bought a set of Goodyear Eagle Response, Kevlar+Carbon Fibre....expensive.
Conti Extremes are pretty crazy good in snow, but don't come in this size. Let me know if I can help further. -Clark

TireRack.com has a very good section showing ratings of various aspects of tires, by brand as well as by h,v,z ratings. If your conditions are similar to ours, snow plows remove most of the snow, then "snow" tires are a waste of money and you need to invest is some all season tires that are good in the wet salty stuff.

I echo Klaus' recommendation. Tirerack has an comprehensive set of statistics. It is broken down by size, speed rating and category (rain, snow, dry, etc)

Also there are customer reviews. I have used this for a few different cars, and it has not let me down. I find it to be accurate for both the good tires I have owned (bought) as well as the not-so-good that came on the cars.
