Window Switch Panel S80 2001

I replaced the Window Switch Panel with a new OE - The old one had cracked in several places and the driver window switch broke off. The new panel will not work at all and parts store said it might need a software update. Could it be anything else that I can do myself. If it is the software is the dealership the only ones that can update this, and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks,
BB

Welcome to the Volvo rip-off. You will need a software download/update to let the computer know that you have a new window switch. Most dealers charge 1/2 hour labor.

Is the dealer the only one with the software? I have a shop that I occasionally use that only works on Sweded - Saabs and Volvos. Is it possible they could do it (I realize I'll need to ask them, I'm just wondering if it's even possible).

If you can find an independent shop with VIDA and a software subscription from Volvo, then you can get the S/W reload without going to a dealer. By the way, the front door window switches are actually control units and tied into the cars CAN system. Expect to pay 30.00-45.00 for the software and anywhere from 1/2 to one hour labor, depending on where you go.

They must have a VADIS subscription. Very possible.
